International Women’s Day is, of course, a day to celebrate the accomplishments and possibilities of women around the world. I want to take this opportunity to thank our team of strong and talented women who help Airbus in Mobile delivery amazing results every day.
But here in Alabama, especially this year, today is also a day to recognize the challenges women face in our state. The “She-cession” brought about by the pandemic has been devastating to the female workforce here. According to the Women’s Fund of Greater Birmingham, the state of Alabama is next-to-last in female employment in the U.S. We are committed to changing that situation.
Airbus prides itself on a strong focus on inclusion and diversity in both its hiring and retention of employees. As part of that effort, it is more important than ever to do away with gender stereotypes in STEM fields, and motivate women to step up into careers they may not have considered. Here in Mobile, we continue to partner with local schools and organizations to broaden job opportunities for every segment of the population. Our hope is that, especially on a day like today, a daughter, sister or mom might just consider a job they never considered before.
